Our History

In 2015, the Certified Final Expense Advisors Association (CFEAA) was established to fill a long-standing need for an organization dedicated to setting standards in the area of Final Expense Planning. Since then, the focus has been on establishing and enforcing education, examination, and ethical requirements for professionals active in marketing final expense insurance products.

A key aspirational goal of the association’s founders was to create an earned professional designation that could be used by like-minded individuals to indicate their provable commitment to providing clients with the highest professional and ethical standards. To accomplish this, the FEPS® certification program was developed. The program was quickly embraced by the industry and is now the industry standard for professional certification as a final expense specialist.

In 2018, the CFEAA name was changed to the Final Expense Planning Specialist Association (FEPSA). The new name was selected to better reflect the organization’s mission and emphasize the value of the FEPS® professional designation.


FEPSA continues to set standards for Final Expense Planning and grants the certification of Final Expense Planning Specialist (FEPS® ) to members who have met the eligibility requirements. Upon completion, members may proudly display the FEPS® mark of distinction as long as they maintain current active membership and uphold the rigorous ethical standards set forth by the Association.
